You can use this as a template to know the number of clicks you’ll need each month to rank higher up the SERPs.
Let’s say your page is on the 7th position on Google for a search term like “best prompt generator”. That means you should be getting about 3% of the total search volume based on the research above. For example, if the search volume is 500, you can expect to receive 15 clicks per month.
Now bring out the spreadsheet containing the CTR of the competitors you checked earlier. You should only attempt to jump one spot or at most two spots at a time to avoid getting flagged.
If the page on position six is getting 4.4% CTR, i.e, 22 clicks out of 500 search volume. You should aim to send an extra 7 clicks to your page each month till you outrank them. And increase your clicks gradually.
Ronald Osborne, CEO of Osborne Digital Marketing, shares his take on this: “Something to note is that when you perform CTR, your listing might drop down a couple of spots. Don’t worry, it can come flying back. However, if the listing tanks, remove your clicks ASAP.”

You shouldn’t increase the clicks on a Christmas-themed post in March—it won’t end well for your site. You should also consider the overall user experience and search intent, whether it’s informational, commercial, or transactional, and ensure your content serves the right intent.
